Bo is a computational scientist at the Research Computing Center (RCC) with a focus on climate research. With expertise in Earth system modeling and data assimilation in operational forecast systems, he is dedicated to supporting and advising faculty, post-docs, and graduate students at the University of Chicago on a wide range of climate research projects.
Dr. Dong has more than a decade of research experience in the field of atmosphere-ocean dynamics, extreme weather and climate events, climate variability and predictability, and Earth’s energy and water budget using high-performance computing and advanced modeling techniques. He holds a Ph.D in atmospheric sciences from the State University of New York at Albany. Prior to joining the RCC, Bo worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, conducting Atmospheric River (AR) research and developing climate model benchmarking software and Earth system data analysis tool packages.
